Celebrate Every Day with Themed Meals! (Episode 4)

Hey Kingston mamas, Sonia here again!  We talked about breaking up the week with some mid-week fun, but let’s be honest, sometimes the excitement can fizzle out by the weekend.  That’s where themed meals come in – a way to add a little pizazz to even the most ordinary nights!

Remember that Wednesday movie Sonia from last week enjoyed? How about turning that into a full-blown Movie Night In?  Pop some popcorn, of course, but why not whip up some gourmet hot dogs inspired by the film’s location?  Chicago dogs for a gangster flick, or lobster rolls for a New England rom-com!

Here are some other themed meal ideas to get your creative juices flowing, inspired by our Kingston life:

  • Island Night:  Pull out your favorite reggae tunes and create a Jamaican feast! Jerk chicken with rice and peas, some tangy coleslaw, and maybe some sweet fried plantains for dessert. Don’t forget the refreshing Jamaican rum punch (mocktails for the kiddos, of course!)
  • Under the Sea Adventure:   Transform your dining room into an ocean wonderland! Make some adorable fish-shaped sandwiches, serve “coral” (cheese cubes dyed orange with paprika) with crackers, and for dessert, whip up a batch of blue ocean jelly with gummy fish swimming inside!
  • Taco Tuesday Takeover:  This classic themed night is a crowd-pleaser for a reason!  Set up a taco bar with different fillings like seasoned ground beef, shredded chicken, or even a vegetarian black bean option. Let everyone customize their tacos with their favorite toppings – salsa, guacamole, sour cream,  pickled onions – the possibilities are endless!
  • International Inspiration:  Feeling adventurous? Pick a country each week and explore its cuisine!  Make some cheesy French crepes for a Parisian night, indulge in some cheesy enchiladas for a taste of Mexico, or try your hand at some simple sushi rolls for a Japanese-inspired dinner.

Remember, mamas, themed meals don’t have to be complicated! It’s all about adding a little extra something to make dinner time fun and engaging for the whole family.
